Alexa Smart Home
MapView is a new way to control smart homes. Users can scan their home and create a digital version, placing their smart devices on a map. This makes it easier to find and control devices without scrolling through a long list.
Why do the Users need a Map of their home?
A typical smart home user has over 50 devices. Controlling them often means scrolling through long lists (as shown in adjacent image) to do simple tasks like turning lights and plugs on or off.
Identifying controls can be difficult since all the light buttons appear similar. Map View helps users by using their understanding of their home layout to make it easier to point at and control devices.
Designing & prototyping core interactions
I designed and prototyped the core interaction pattern for the Map View experience. The gestural interaction model makes it easy to perform frequent tasks — allowing Users to operate at the speed of thought.
